Pondering My Pumpkins....

Pondering My Pumpkins....

As I sit here pondering the demise of my pumpkins, knitted ones of course ... I've made many over the years which have been put away so safely I can't for the life of me find them!  Where do all the things we 'put away safely' go?? Anyway, I digress!

So, Halloween and all that jazz, whilst I love autumn and pumkins and squash of all varieties, walking through the crisp leaves and the smell of woodburners in the air, I do really hate the 'Trick or Treat' American style festival it has become.  Apologies to all my customers in the US, but I will explain.  If I went to a parenting course and said that one dark night I dress my kids up to look awful, like axed murderers, dead bodies, witches and ghouls, then I send them out in the dark to ask strangers for sweets and chocolate and if they get a 'no' from these people to threaten them!  I would without a doubt be moments away from an interview with Social Services. Or, if I said to my kids walk up to that man eating chocolate and tell him to give it to you otherwise you will cover him with eggs and flour - you would think that my parenting skill are poor to say the least but on 31st October this is now what we consider the norm.  AND don't even speak to me about the parents that choose to dress up as well!!

No, I'm not a party pooper ... when I was young Mischief Night (that's the night before Halloween for the younger readers!) was a great laugh. Knock door run, and tieing bin lids together and maybe just maybe writing 'poo' in the dust on someone's car bumper was as far as it went.  When did we start to go all out at Halloween? Was I sleeping or not in the UK at the time? And dont even start me on the legalities of 'begging with menaces' which will gain you up to 6 months in prison and as for Street Robbery in my day at the 'Yard' there was a dedicated team dealing with Street Robberies ... now we just send our kids out to do it for us!!

Anyway, enough bah humbug from me, I'll just shut up, pending the evening of Halloween, which I mainly spend lying on my lounge floor with the lights out (sorry kids) and get on with knitting my newest lovely pumkin ... in DK yarn and a very simple pattern.  Let me know if you'd like a copy!  Found them ... here's a photo ...
